Julia felt a chill through her whole body as she read the ominous message. Obviously, changing cars hadn’t fooled whoever was threatening her. She felt she must be getting close to some answers, or at least somebody thought she was. The “Friendly Island” wasn’t necessarily always friendly, it appeared. As she drove to Greg’s house, she tried to recall all the people who might know her car. She couldn’t think of all that many. Ian, Jill, the Gradys and probably some of the hotel staff, if they’d seen her get in and out. And obviously someone who liked to write rhyming notes. She decided to show this one to Ian the next time they met.

Moments later, she hopped out of the blue Subaru at Greg’s house. Wonderful smells wafted through the open door. Freshly brewed coffee and hot rolls were on the menu, for sure. His front door was wide open. Julia poked her head inside the room.

“Greg, what beautiful flowers! What a nice touch!”

“You like that, huh? Good, just what a bashful host likes to hear,” Greg replied, as he held out his arms to greet her.

“Bashful? You? That’s a joke, isn’t it?” Julia returned his greeting with a kiss on the cheek. “Smells divine in here. Are you some kind of masculine Rachel Ray?

“No, I just like to cook a little. And breakfast is my favorite meal. Today, the chef’s special is “Omelet a la Provencal.” Greg did a little French waiter bow.

“Sounds fancy.”

“Well, it’s a little something I whip up from scratch. Eggs, of course, some cocktail sauce, shrimp, onion, mushrooms, garlic, and voila! A treat for the queen!” Greg smiled at Julia. “I do hope you’re hungry.”

“Ravenous!” Julia laughed.

“Good. By the way, you do look lovely this morning.”

Julia found herself blushing, again, as she smiled. Hot pink was a good color for her. The pants and sleeveless camisole fit her nicely and showed off the deepening tan of her arms and chest. “Thanks, Greg,” she replied as he led her to a chair in the sunny dining nook.

Birds were singing outside as the sun streamed through the flowers and vines in the small yard. Julia felt very much at peace as she enjoyed the view.

Greg produced a bottle of Champagne from a silver bucket on the counter and poured two tall glasses. “Julia, let’s toast this lovely day and my beautiful guest.”

“How about my handsome host?” she responded with a smile.

He shrugged, “Whatever. Let’s eat!”

Julia took her first bite and was impressed with Greg’s culinary skills. The food was very good, as was the Champagne.

“Greg, do you know if there was any animosity between Ian and Linda?”

“Over what?”

“I don’t know, really. I gather that she was pretty much in love with him, at least at one time. Do you know why they broke up?”

“Well, the way I understand it is that Linda was pressuring Ian to get married. Ian wasn’t ready to go that far. I don’t think there were any big fights or anything.
